REACH

Despite not being able to go to school in person, Pennfield High School students are still showing REACH at home online. Sophomore, Sienna Lindsey, and Senior, Molly Mackenzie both showed REACH right from their homes.
Sienna was nominated by Mr. Klepac. Sienna said she got it for, “consistent participation and willingness to take part in important educational discussions.” while Molly was nominated by Mr. Podolan. She got it for, “volunteering and being prepared to present a project in class.”
Sienna said, “I was surprised, but really excited about it.” And added on saying, “I always try to do my best on every assignment I am given. I don't know how much I deserved the pass, but I really do appreciate it.” While Molly said, “I was really excited when I got the email. It felt like things were back to normal, just for a second. It definitely made my day.” She then went on and said, “I do feel like I deserved the pass. I worked hard on my presentation and practicing it, so it feels good to be appreciated for that.”
“This does encourage and motivate me to keep improving,” said Sienna, “It's nice knowing that I'm making my teachers proud. I'm going to continue to do my best.” Molly says this will encourage and motivate her to keep improving. “It's nice knowing that I'm making my teachers proud. I'm going to continue to do my best,” she said.
Even though currently we are not in the classroom, it doesn’t mean you can’t show REACH from home. Make sure you're doing your best in every class, and you might be like Sienna and Molly and get nominated for REACH!

REACH

REACH is an important word with a very important meaning, which is used often at Pennfield High School. Pennfield High School’s new Assistant Principal, Mr. Hutchins told us what REACH means to him.
“REACH is important to establish expectations so students know what is expected in all areas of school. It establishes how we act, and provides guidance and structure, helping students feel safe, said Mr. Hutchins.”
With COVID-19 keeping us out of school and doing virtual school, REACH is now more important than ever.
“It is more important to establish expectations to provide structure and certainty in a somewhat uncertain environment,” Mr. Hutchins tells me.
Positive Behavior Inventions and Supports (PBIS) have always been a part of school. With REACH being so important to students, principals have expectations of teachers using REACH just as much as students.
Mr. Hutchins explains,“PHS teachers do a great job of modeling REACH expectations and behaviors. We do recognize staff for demonstrating teacher expectations and going above and beyond their normal duties.”
REACH is a working system to make it the best we can.
“We have over 300 students nominated and recognized for REACH since the start of the year.”
“That number exemplifies a system that is working to recognize students demonstrating "great expectations, says Mr. Hutchins.”
Mr. Hutchins believes in the system of REACH, he also stated that he likes to think he uses REACH in his everyday life and that he demonstrates that to his own kids. At Pennfield we show Responsibility, Engagement, Achievement, Character, and Honor even in the hardest times.
