Athlete of the Month
New athletes of the month are out! In the month of February, we had Junior, Carson Dyer and Junior Abigail Schwartz receive the honor. Abigail played women’s basketball and Carson played men’s bowling, and both seasons have come to a close. Carson said that he did pretty good this season including all-conference honors as well as qualifying for state finals. We asked what his favorite part about the season was.
He said, “My favorite part about the season was being able to bond with all of my teammates and getting more experience in my sport.”He believes what sets him apart is he is extremely determined at the sport and excels at it. We also caught up with Abigail Schwartz. They went 7-13 this season which she was happy with as they did better than last season. Her favorite part of this season was senior night against Coldwater being able to win and have a good ending to their Pennfield careers. She thinks what sets her apart is that she talks a lot and can get the team to listen to her. She also thinks the team gets along so well that it helps and is able to motivate them easier. -- Shane Carpenter ‘23 (3/13/20) |
Spring Sports
As spring starts so do spring sports! Many returning athletes are starting tryouts and getting ready for their seasons. Sports can teach responsibility as well as create a more fun environment at school. Junior and captain, Allison Biergeder, has been playing soccer since she was 3 years old! “Soccer has taught me responsibility and leadership as I am a captain for my team.” She hopes to help lead her team to be 1st in the I8.
Jack Boyd, also a Junior has been playing lacrosse since the third grade. He said that playing lacrosse has taught him to work hard and always try his best in tough situations. Sadie Drawhorn has been playing softball since the fifth grade. She says “One of my goals this season is to have fun with my teammates and win our all city tournament at the end of the season.” Sadie feels that playing softball and being on a team has taught her a lot about being a good friend and how to be a good team player. Be sure to come out and support our student athletes this spring! -- Jayla E., Madi W ‘22 (3/12/20) |

Link Leader Vs. Teacher Basketball Game
|
The stands were filled at the LINK vs. Staff basketball game on Friday, March 6th. The basketball game was a blast and everyone had a good time. The game started at 6:00 and the LINK crew organized the game. Mr. Kuhse and Mr. Faber were two of the players on the staff team playing in the game, so we got some comments from them on how they thought it went. We also interviewed Jack Boyd who was a player on the LINK crew team playing in the game.
Mr. Kuhse already had an idea that the staff were going to win. When asked why, he said, “There’s a lot of teachers that have had experience playing basketball. Some teachers played college basketball, and lots played in highschool so we had a very good chance.” Mr. Faber thought they did very well as a team and said, “As a team we did very well. We worked together, communicated on defense, moved the ball, and found open shots. Personally, it was a reminder that I no longer have the cardio stamina of a high school student, but I felt I contributed positively to the team.” Jack thought that the LINK team could have done better and when asked if he thought they were going to win he responded with, “Honestly I had no idea, I’m just glad a lot of people came and we made a lot of money and people had a good time.” The Staff took the win with the final score of 39 - 54. Mr. Faber would like to thank the LINK Crew for organizing the event, and the PHS Drumline for their performance as well. Mr. Faber said, “It was a fun night that hopefully can become an annual event in the transition from Winter to Spring.” -- Brielle Barber ‘23, Madison Wood ‘23 (3/12/20) |
End to Winter Sports
Pennfield's Winter Sports are already wrapping up, meaning Spring Sports are here. Our Winter Sports teams such as; basketball, boys swim, bowling, competitive cheer, dance, and wrestling have all made great memories that every athlete will miss. Something different out of the winter sports is boys swim. Pennfield doesn’t face our sporting conference but shares a team with Battle Creek Central. One of our boy swimmers, Sophomore, Noah Elferdink, is a part of the team.
“This year's swim team was super fun. I’ll miss the team since most of us are graduating and most people from Pennfield aren’t swimming next year. It was always fun playing water polo because we got to tackle and chuck people around for an hour. My record right now for my 50m is 24.0 and for my 200m I had a 56.6. I’m hoping next season I’ll go down from my 24 to a 22 and hopefully drop my 56 to a 50 in the 100. If you’re going to join swim and you want to do good, shave your head, it’s for the boys,” Noah tells us.
A sport that’s always been big at Pennfield is wrestling.
Sophomore, Dawson Ransom tells us, “This year was pretty fun. I’m going to miss wrestling in general and the locker room with the boys. In the future I’m planning on going to states for the next couple of years I have left here at Pennfield. Especially with my record of 39-5. Something that always keeps me motivated was an event from my freshman year. That year I saw one of my best friends end his career in wrestling, just because he lost by one point. That’s something that drives me to push harder.”
Pennfield’s past state champions throughout the past years, boys and girls bowling, still succeed to continue Pennfield’s legacy known as a very good bowling school. One of Pennfield’s amazing bowlers that’s gone to states, Junior, Carson Dyer, whose love for the game grows more and more every year.
Carson says, “Every single year of bowling has always been fun. I’m going to miss all the fun experiences the team and I had at hotels, tournaments, and having a strong team. It makes me sad that I have to say goodbye to all the seniors because of all the fun times we had together. I love how hard we worked as a whole, ending with a record of 11-5. In the future I’m hoping and it’s looking like I could go professional in bowling. Bowling is such a great program, you will have lots of fun and great coaching. Overall it’s a great experience.”
A new member to the girls bowling, Junior, Naomi Todd, already fell in love with the sport.
Naomi tells us, “I’m proud of myself for having a record of 147 which was good for my first year I thought. The best memory I had was every practice with the JV boys and getting 3rd place in the girls tournament. I will miss all the seniors and memories made with the team at all the tournaments. I was scared to join but anyone who’s thinking about it should because it’s actually a great experience and the coaches helped me a lot.”
One of the many sports played in the winter that many students come out to support is girls and boys basketball. Our girls seem to feel that their season wasn’t the greatest but it was fun.
Junior, Sadie Drawhorn says, “Yes we are only 7-14, which isn’t what we wanted but this team has been a lot of fun. I’m going to miss the team so much. This by far has been my favorite season with all the girls, we all got along really well and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Of course I’m also going to miss being able to play basketball every single day too. I will always remember beating Coldwater on our parent/senior night because having a good game that day was very important to us. I’m super excited for next year's season and I’m ready to give it my all for my senior year. If anyone is scared to join basketball, try playing because you could totally fall in love with it and it’s a great way to meet so many good people and build a support system.”
Our boys basketball team is having one of the best seasons they’ve played.
Junior, Andrew Hoban tells us, “I’m beyond proud of this team. It’s crazy that we thought we were going nowhere but ended up getting somewhere, with our record of 14-7. One of the coolest moments that I’ll always remember is Ryne’s buzzer beater the first game of districts. I’m going to miss playing with the guys for the year but I’m excited to get back at it next year. For next year I’m hoping to be able to come back having aspirations of having another season of trophies in the league and district title. I always told myself to play every minute like it’s your last because you never know when you won’t be able to step on the court again.”
During halftime of those basketball games, the Pennfield dance teams came on the floor to show us different dances they’ve learned.
Senior, Hannah Baird says, “I’m going to definitely miss dance at Pennfield since I’m graduating this year. I’ll miss all the performances because it’s something I love to do and feel confident with. I’ll never forget how fun it was late night at dance camp with all the girls at the hotel. I’m hoping to continue dancing in the future for a college dance team or even a class. Sometimes dance can be stressful but never quit dancing. It doesn’t matter what people think and say, if you love it, give it your all and don’t rush anything because it’ll be over before you imagine.”
Competitive Cheer has been one of the sports Pennfield’s been very good at these past couple of years.
Senior, Kinzie Earl tells us, “Cheer has been something big for me ever since I was little. These past years on the varsity competitive cheer team since my Freshman year have been very exciting and fun. I’m going to miss all the bonds everyone had with one another on the team. I’m excited to see my team continue to succeed and grow. I’ll never forget winning the I-8 with my teammates and I love how they work hard because they want to improve especially with our record of 25-4.”
All of Pennfield’s Winter sports had a fun season that will be missed. I’m sure everyone is excited for next year.

Cheer Champions
Returning this season to defend their 1-8 Champion Title, Pennfield’s varsity competitive cheer team is fired up to complete this season with another win. Senior, Cassie Smith, says “I have been on varsity since I was a freshman and have loved every minute of it.” Cassie was on the team when they won the title last season. “Winning is fun, but earning it makes it even more sweet.” Cassie says she’s excited to see where the rest of the season takes the team, whether it be to take another title or not.

Athlete of the Month
|
Congratulations to Ryne Peterson and Abigail Schwartz who were chosen as the athlete of the month for December! Each month, the athlete of the month is chosen by Mr. Steele who chooses one male and one female student-athlete. To be the athlete of the month you have to have good grades and have done a very good job in a sport they participate in. The male athlete of last month was Ryne Peterson. Ryne is a junior, who plays football and basketball. When asked why he thinks he got picked, he said...
“I think I was the athlete of the month because I was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA in the first semester and have been playing very well on the basketball court.” Also, he said that this is his first time being the athlete of the month and that it feels great. Ryne says that if he had to choose the next athlete of the month, he would choose Gavin Ligget because he’s a really good basketball player and that he has been working really hard in class. The female athlete of last month was, Abigail Schwartz. Abigail is a junior, who plays volleyball, basketball, and soccer. She says that out of all the sports teams, she thinks it is awesome that she was chosen to represent the athletes. When asked why she thinks she was picked, she said... “I think I've done really well in this first part of our basketball season. I've been a high-scorer of all of our games and I think I've done a good job with trying to lead my team.” Abigail said that if she had to choose the next athlete of the month, that she didn’t have anyone in particular but that anyone from her team would be a good choice. Thank you, Abigail and Ryne for talking with us and good luck on your upcoming games! -- Sarah Brosky, Rebecca Haywood (1/21/20) |
Bowling
Pennfield is known around Battle Creek to have an outstanding bowling team. They are currently at the beginning of their season. We interviewed Carson Dyer, Faith Grupczynski, and Izzy Eves.
Faith said, “We are doing a lot better than everyone expected. We have many new players and they have already gotten comfortable with our family/team.” Carson said, “We have all been working very hard, the new and returning bowlers have been putting in a lot of effort. I think we are going to have a good season.” Izzy said, “We’re doing better than I expected. I have seen huge improvements from both the JV and Varsity teams. I’m excited to become a better team together and have a great season!” Thank you PHS bowling, we hope you have an amazing season!! -- Brooklyn Bass 22’, Melissa Santibanez 20’ (1/14/20) |

Competitive Cheer
|
Do you ever wonder how cheerleaders make those difficult stunts seem so effortless? We asked Senior, Skylar Wolfe and Freshman, Jozzalyn Hoath about the difficulties of competitive cheer.
Skylar is on the Varsity cheer team and has been doing competitive cheer for 4 years. When asking Skylar why she joined competitive cheer she replied with, “I started dancing when I was two and up until 8th grade I did rocket cheer, which I really enjoyed. When I started high school, competitive cheer was an option, I tried it out and I have loved it ever since.” Jozzalyn is on the JV cheer team and has been doing competitive cheer for 3 years. Jozzalyn told us she considers competitive cheer a sport because you get to go against other teams. When asking Jozzalyn what’s the best thing about competitive cheer she replied with, “I think stunting is the best part of cheer but also the hardest because you get to go up in the air and hit a bunch of challenging stunts.” You can see these ladies hit their stunts at the Pennfield home competition, Friday, January 17th at 6 pm at the high school gym. Keep it up ladies we can’t wait to see you guys bring home another win! -- Brielle Barber ‘23, Madison Wood ‘23 (1/13/20) |
Varsity Basketball
It’s Winter time which means it’s finally basketball season. It’s always a great time of the school year where the student section is back from the field to the gym to cheer on our boys and girls varsity basketball teams. The girl’s varsity basketball team at the moment has a 2-6 record.
Senior, Lauren Vought tells us, “This year we have a new team and coach so it’s hard getting use to. We started a little rough but things are getting a lot better now. Everyone’s getting used to the plays and working a lot better as a team. Our goals as a team are to learn more plays and to go far in districts. Now that we're getting better with that I feel that when districts come around we’re going to crush it.” Being on the varsity team since freshman year, Junior, Abby Swarts says, “I think together as a team we are working really well together. Our record may not show it but we have improved so much since the beginning of the season. We have a great group of girls and we work well with each other.” Abby continues telling us about how proud she is of how much of a better player she’s become, “I think this year has been much better for me as a player. I’m scoring a lot more and am able to create more scoring opportunities for my teammates. A goal I have for this season would be to definitely keep scoring and trying to increase my points and assists each game.” The boy’s varsity basketball team has a 5-1 record. Sophomore, Aiden Burns tells us, “At the start of the season I was really worried about the team. We really weren't working together as a team but now that we all are getting used to the groove again we’ve become a lot better. With our record now I’m excited to see my team and I grow more and more.” |
Our returning varsity player, sophomore, Luke Davis says, “Compared to how we were at the start of the season, I think we’re doing great. We communicate and play great together as a team. Both sides of the team, offense and defense can improve to make themselves even better to shut down even more teams. My goal is to continue making buckets throughout the season and to keep winning tough games with my team.” The girls and boys varsity teams next home game will be Winter Carnival, which is, Friday, January 24, against Jackson Northwest. Be sure to be there wearing your green in white gear to cheer for our varsity basketball teams to victory! -- Hannah Davis ‘21 Izzy Dingman ‘22 Kailee Overby ‘20 (1/13/20) |
Volleyball Districts
Pennfield Varsity Volleyball Team just wrapped up their last game, Wednesday, November 6th. They played against their biggest rival, Marshall Redhawks. First game was a rough start as Marshall beat us, 25-11. The Panthers didn’t win the second or third game but fought a lot harder with losing 25-19 second game and 25-21 the third.
Senior, Madison Zima tells us, “It always sucks because we face Marshall right off the bat every year for districts. I am proud of my teammates on how much of a comeback we almost had the second and third game.”
Junior, Kailey Canterbury says, “My biggest dream is to beat Marshall during districts. We have before so I know we can again. Next year we for sure will get past them in districts and make it far!”
Every other player on the team explained how they enjoyed this season with all the close bonds that were made and will grow for a lifetime. Volleyball season is over for now but next year the Panthers will cook that bird!

Powderpuff Volleyball Game 2019
On Thursday, October 7th Pennfield had our yearly Powderpuff volleyball game. This event is always very competitive and intense, the boys that play have lots of fun. With these events, you never know who is going to win. Sometimes you can predict the winning team by how athletic the players are. This year many people thought that the seniors were going to win. That wasn't the case, the juniors won! Some teams didn’t even have the chance to practice. This makes the competition even more exciting because you don't know how the teams will play. Logan Roberts played for the sophomores and he said, “We never practiced so our team came into the game a bit rusty, but I think we did decently. I had a lot of fun and would play again in the future.” There are no more Powerpuff games for the 2019/20 school year but next year we look forward to seeing everyone at the events!!

Winter Sports
Brrrr! Winter is here and so are Pennfield’s winter sports. Tryouts are in the next few weeks for the following sports: Competitive Cheer, Bowling, Wrestling, Swimming, and Basketball (boys and girls). Good luck to all those trying out and to the teams this season!
Bowling: Rolling into winter sports with bowling we talked to Hanna Ruoff, a Sophomore at PHS. We asked Hannah what made her want to bowl, she answered, “I grew up in a bowling family. It is just something I’ve always done.” She has been bowling since she could walk, she has been in the alley since she was a newborn. Hannah has been on the bowling team since she was four. Hannah says, “I’m always pushing myself to do better, my team and coaches inspire me to do better.” Hannah’s favorite part about bowling is the competition, along with the fact that anyone who wants to bowl can. It doesn’t matter if your tall or short, petite or large it only matters that you push yourself to do your best. We hope to see new members on the bowling team this year. Wrestling: Fall sports have ended, winter sports are starting, which means training and matches. This year for wrestling we are questioning Sophomore, Dawson Ransom. He is planning on doing wrestling this year again. He says, “I want to wrestle because it is an individual sport and I get to control how well I do.” The one thing Dawson enjoys about wrestling is beating people, “I like to win. The feeling can’t be replicated.” Dawson believes the team will be better than last year with some of the new wrestlers joining and old wrestlers coming back. He is pushing himself to be better and he wants to be the best, that is what makes him try harder. Dawson’s favorite thing about wrestling is winning because, “You know you beat the guy you wrestled, knowing you’re better than them makes you feel good.” Competitive Cheer: One of the sports Pennfield has to offer this winter is competitive cheer. The team travels to different schools to compete. Junior, Josie Perrien says she is most excited to perform the different rounds they do. At the end of the season, she hopes they will become I-8 champions once again. With a lot of talent on the team and enough hard work, Josie believes it can happen. Freshman, Mackenzie Pemberton, says she is excited to work with her team once again, but this time for competitive purposes. Mackenzie says she has been looking forward to cheering in high school for a long time and is very excited about this season. Good luck ladies, and bring us home another win! Basketball: Sophomore player Luke Davis who has been playing basketball since he was four years old, says he started playing basketball because, “It looked fun and I wanted to try it but I mostly play it for my mom.” Luke is one of the best point guards on our boy’s basketball team. The newspaper crew also asked about how many baskets he makes per game. Luke said, “About thirteen or fourteen.” Luke wants to see his team go to the regional championship this season. Luke says he lives to compete and stand out from the crowd. This season looks to be a good one for our panthers! Good luck team! Swimming: The fall sports have past and winter is here which means new sports for Pennfield High School. One swimmer is Damian Diamante. Damian is a Sophomore at Pennfield High School. Damian said, “I joined the team to connect with more people and also to see what competitive swimming and diving was. I wasn’t really inspired, I just saw an informational paper posted near the staircase and thought that it would be fun. We learn swimming techniques which are like the different types of strokes/dives it just depends on if you are a swimmer or a diver.” His favorite parts of swimming were hanging out with his teammates, and the food after every swim meet. Damian said, “Depending on how many people are on the team this year it will be a great season and we will do well.” Damian represents PHS really well and good luck at all of the swimming and diving meets. -- Kaitlynn Caswell '22, Alissa Stamper '22, Sydney Kurtz '22, Hope Titus '22 |
Athlete of the Month
Athlete of the month is when two students, one boy and one girl are chosen for their athletic skills and great leadership towards their teammates. One of the athletes chosen was, Senior, Gavin Mir. Gavin is our Varsity Soccer Team’s Captain, who’s been playing on Varsity since Freshman year. “It was really cool to just get recognized like that, but I couldn’t have done anything without my team behind me. I feel like I just did my best to set the right example and show the younger guys what it means to be a good captain,” Gavin tells us. Gavin is very proud of his team for having a good season with double digit wins and how the team came together in general. For Gavin’s future, he hopes to go to Michigan State University for Biochemistry or attend a smaller school to continue his soccer career. Pennfield High School’s second athlete of the month was, Senior, Ondi Miller. Ondi is the Varsity Volleyball Captain, who’s been playing on Varsity since Sophomore year. Ondi tells us, “I always love spreading positivity towards my teammates. Volleyball is an emotional sport and me being a captain I always need to keep a good attitude to keep my teammates up. By showing positivity and working hard at practices, I hope to show that I’m a good role model to the girls.” Ondi couldn’t be happier to have such a great group of girls as her teammates and hopes to help them even when she’s graduated. Ondi plans on going to Western Michigan University or Olivet for forensic science, or a smaller school to continue playing volleyball. Always keep a good attitude and work hard at the sports you play. Who knows, you could be the next athlete of the month.

Powder Puff 2019
On October 29, 2019, we had quite an interesting football game. This isn’t just any other football game. This football game was a powderpuff game. Powderpuff is where the girls play and the guys coach. It was very fun to see girls playing football. The junior team wore jerseys that were pink and white, which said 21 for the class of 2021. The seniors had black and yellow Jerseys that had 20 for the class of 2020. What also makes powderpuff different from a regular football game is that the game is only half as long as a normal one. It was entertaining to see the girls tackle each other, run across the field, and get touchdowns. Every time a girl got a touchdown, they would all celebrate and hug each other. They would scream and jump with joy. The girls seemed to have a really good time while playing. The seniors won 21 to 14. They were all good sports and cheered each other on. After the game I was able to talk to some of the coaches and players. Jack Boyd and Ryne Petersen said that that the girls didn’t always know what they were doing, and that it was fun to watch and help coach them.
|
Junior Cate Govier, said that she loved every part of the game. She enjoyed learning what it was like to experience playing football with the team. She said the hardest part of the game was to remember what to do when she’s under so much pressure. Govier said the team worked really well together and that this experience meant a lot to her. BenRachi Hall was one of the coaches for the junior team. He wanted to coach because he really loves the sport and anything related to it. Teaching the girls the rules of the sport was the hardest part of the game says Hall. One of the most fun parts was hanging out with my friends and having fun. The team worked really well together and all the athletes and coaches were great during the game. Faith Grupczynski, junior, joined the powderpuff game to get a unique and different experience in playing sports. The skills that help you on the team are being fast and being able to block people. Other then that you don't really need skills you just come out to have fun. The most challenging part was not knowing much about football. Being in powderpuff was fun and a great way to stay active while trying something new. Brooke Robertson, 11th grader, wanted to play powderpuff because it sounded really fun. Robertson says that you need to have a good attitude and a decent sense of knowledge for the sport. The most fun part was playing with my friends. The team worked well with each other. powderpuff is more than just playing football. it's about the memories, the fun, and having new experiences. -Rebecca Haywood '20 & Sarah Brosky '21 |

Xc Interview
Cross Country season is here! As some of you know; the team got a new coach this year, Jennifer Burns. We had the chance to interview two players, Presley Sedore and Aiden Burns. Aiden has been running for 5 years now while Presley has been running for 4. They are both very excited for this season and have seen a lot of improvement from last year. What is special about being on the team? The bond with teammates, how much fun they have, and how they all help each other improve. What are their thoughts on the new coach? Presley said, “I like her, she’s doing a good job at pushing all of us to be the best we can be.” Aiden is actually the coaches son but he had something to say too. He said, “She's doing good so far, I think she'll be a big help to increase the running program as the years pass.” Thank you Aiden and Presley, we wish the team has a great season this year!

Tennis Spotlight
Antonio Ramos is a good first year tennis player for the boys varsity team! He started 2 games into the season which means he missed all of “training camp” and is already proving to be a great player. On why he started playing tennis, he said, “I play tennis because Mr. Corcoran believes it will help me be a better wrestler, since I am learning to be precise.” Antonio works hard everyday, “I don’t like losing, I want to win, and to win I need to improve.” He sure is improving and is now located at 2nd doubles. He enjoys tennis so far and says this about playing next year, “I plan on playing tennis next year so I can learn more and continue to have a great experience with the team.” That's good news for the Panthers as this year half of the team including Antonio was either freshmen or first year players. More experience will be helpful for next season.

Pennfield Volleyball
We’re digging deeper into the new Pennfield volleyball season. Starting off with the Freshman volleyball team, they have had a winning streak for the first three games. Freshman, Ava Spinney says, “So far it’s been a great season and it’s only the beginning. Playing volleyball in high school is way different than what it was like in middle school. They work us harder and conditioning is every Monday. It’s a lot of work but it’s helping us become better.” Freshman, Olivia Jenney says something along the lines of, “This season already is great. We all are so close and like family. We all work great together and improve greatly everyday.” The JV team is also off to a great start. Sophomore, Katie Crandall tells us, “So far the team is doing very well. There’s no problems and we all work together as a team.” Sophomore, Kylie Crandall says, “I’m very proud of this team and how greatly we’ve improved since last year. Our coach has been working our butts off and it’s made us into great players.” Lastly we have Varsity volleyball with the record of 2-2. Many of the varsity players have played together for a long time on travel and the past school seasons. Senior, Ondi Miller says, “I think our team is off to a great start as long as we continue to work hard and don’t let up. We’ve improved 100% since the start because we are communicating better, and we continue to push ourselves.” Senior, Kelsie Kemerling explains, “I think this season will go well. With the talent we have we should be able to go far in districts and place high in our overall ranking. That’s our goal along with winning the I-8. I truly believe this is feasible if we continue to work hard and play together as a team.” The one who’s in charge of it all, Coach Jon Morris tells us, “We’re young and we’re getting better and better everyday. They’ve improved since the start and still will everyday they come to practice. If we stay healthy without any injuries we should be able to go far. A goal I hope we accomplish is making it far in the state tournament and improving even more.” All the volleyball teams for Pennfield are killing it. Be sure to make it to the next home game, Wednesday, September 25th against Coldwater. Freshman and JV play at 5:30 and Varsity at 6:00.

Pennfield Sideline Cheerleading 2019
|
P - A - N - T - H - E - R - S, Panthers, Panthers, the BEST! Pennfield's cheer is off to a great start this year rushing the crowd at both JV and Varsity football games. Brianna and Selbi think cheer is really fun. Selbi joked that she joined cheer because, “I'm really pretty.” The girls think the definition of a cheerleader could be, someone who is hardworking, respectful, and responsible. Brianna Wiley thinks a cheerleader is someone who is really outgoing. When we asked Tori Young if she considers cheer a sport, and why? She said, “Yes I do because even though we don’t compete during the sideline season, there’s a lot of hard work that goes into our performances.” You can see Brianna and Selbi cheer at the JV games, and Tori cheer at the Varsity games. Keep up the great work, and we can’t wait to see you support at the games!

Panther Football
(The Pennfield football team is in full swing as they prepare for this year’s season. Players are aching to touch their cleats onto the field, and the crowd is ecstatic to watch them take the school to victory this year. This season there are 3 teams, Varsity, JV, and Freshmen. Different teams, but the same goal. To win. Varsity player Brenden Dollaway, position linebacker/guard, says “I play to win, and my motivation to play is to win.” Other teams players, such as Arturo Segovia on the Freshman team, says, “My personal motivation is my family. I play this game so I don’t get in trouble later on. The team keeps me in line.” This year’s football teams are hungry and are ready to take the field. “Our biggest rival is Harper, for sure,” states Arturo. While their opponents are gearing up for their season, so are the panthers. Coming in with full force, our football teams are ready to take home some wins this season! Good luck boys and girl!
